Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly provided an update about wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant’s comeback. Ganguly, who is part of the Delhi Capitals management group, revealed that Pant might be back to play for India in a year’s or a couple of years.

Rishabh Pant was involved in a tragic car accident on December 30, 2022. He suffered multiple injuries to his head, back, and feet. The left-handed batter is the skipper of the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. However, he will not be available for the upcoming 2023 season. Sourav Ganguly expressed that the team has not finalized Pant’s replacement yet.

“I spoke to him a couple of times. Obviously, he is going through a tough period, through injuries and surgeries and I wish him well. In a year’s time or maybe in a couple of years’ time, he will be back playing for India,” said the former Indian skipper as quoted by PTI.

Abhishek Porel and Sheldon Jackson are the front-runners to replace the wicket-keeper in Delhi Capitals. Sourav Ganguly said,

“We still need a bit of time to figure it out. The next camp starts before IPL.”

Sarfaraz Khan should be okay for the IPL: Sourav Ganguly

Delhi Capitals held a three-day camp in Kolkata for its domestic players. The likes of Prithvi Shaw, Ishant Sharma, Sarfaraz Khan, Chetan Sakariya, and others were part of the camp. Sarfaraz Khan injured his figure during the practice sessions and has been ruled out of the Irani Trophy. However, Sourav Ganguly confirmed that the Mumbai batter will be fit for the IPL. He said,

“The IPL is still a month away and the season has just started. It is difficult to get all the players together for the amount of cricket they play. There are four or five who are playing Irani Trophy. Sarfaraz has an injured finger and it’s not a broken finger. He should be okay for the IPL.”

The 2023 Indian Premier League season kicks off on March 31. The Delhi Capitals will play their opening game on April 1 against Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow.
