Team India had a full-fledged practice session in Durham ahead of their 5-match Test series against England. The series kicks off on August 4, Wednesday, at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham. It will be part of the 2021-23 World Test Championship cycle.

Prior to the start of the series, the Men in Blue are holed up in Durham where they played a practice game. Following that match, India engaged in a net session with the batsmen having a hit out on the center wicket at the Durham Cricket Club. With just a week to go, Cheteshwar Pujara, Mayank Agarwal, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli broke a sweat out in the middle.

The BCCI released snapshots of the same with the caption:

The Indian team had a good outing in the practice match

The Indian squadron recently participated in a three-day practice match against County Select XI. Although the game ended in a draw, almost all the players had a go in the match. While Mayank Agarwal looked comfortable at the crease during his short stays, KL Rahul scored a century in the first innings.

Ravindra Jadeja also utilized the match and brought up fifties in both innings. A point of concern is Cheteshwar Pujara’s lean patch of late, which he couldn’t get rid of against County XI. With the ball in hand, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj weren’t incisive but consistent. Umesh Yadav picked up three wickets, while Shardul Thakur, Jadeja, and Axar Patel chipped in with one each.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli and his deputy Ajinka Rahane didn’t participate owing to minor injuries. While Kohli has recovered fully, Rahane’s participation is yet to be confirmed. Pacer Avesh Khan and all-rounder Washington Sundar sustained injuries during the game and were consequently ruled out.
