IND vs AUS: “As A Batting Group, We Know It’s Going To Be Difficult” – Alex Carey

The Australian Cricket Team registered an emphatic 9-wicket win in the 3rd Test match at Indore that finished on the 3rd morning. It was a pitch that turned from ball one and was a tough challenge for the batters. Alex Carey has performed brilliantly as a wicketkeeper for Australia in the 3 Test matches against India.

India won the first Test match at Nagpur by innings and 132 runs while thrashing the visitors by 6 wickets in the 2nd Test at New Delhi to take a 2-0 lead in the series.

Alex Carey looked impressive with his wicketkeeping skills during the 3rd Test match at Indore. All the pitches so far provided turn to the spinners and it was a tough job for the wicketkeeper to take catches.

Carey has been sensational in playing Test cricket on Indian soil for the first time. With the likes of Nathan Lyon, Matt Kuhemann, and Todd Murphy, the wicketkeeper batter has affected seven dismissals from 3 matches. He has been important in taking reviews at crucial times and helped Australia to get wickets. He said:

“I speak to guys regularly who’ve played for Australia in terms of Haddin and Gilchrist and Ian Healy’s always in the corner there. Tim Nielsen at South Australia is a guy I’ve worked with for a number of years, so bounce things off him.”

“Then when you land over here, you get a bit of a feel. As a batting group, we know it’s going to be difficult. We know that the eight-degree ball might not get the wicket, it might be the one that doesn’t spin. In Nagpur, Uzzy had a half volley that spun eight degrees and he nicks it, and you go, well, there’s not much you can do about that.”

Alex Carey’s performance in Test matches

Alex Carey made his Test debut for Australia against England in the first Ashes Test match in Brisbane. He has featured in 18 matches ( 29 innings) and scored 689 runs with 1 century and 3 half-centuries to his name.

Carey scored his maiden Test century in the first innings of the 2nd Test match against South Africa at MCG. With wicketkeeping skills, Carey made 60 catches and 2 stumpings.

He would be looking to score big in the final Test match against India. With the likes of Ashwin, Jadeja, and Axar Patel, Carey has not converted starts into big scores.
