Team India registered an emphatic win against Australia in an action-packed T20I on Thursday, November 23 at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. They defeated the visitors by two wickets in the final over, going one-up in the five-match T20I series.

Batting first, Australia scored 208 runs on the board, on the back of a brilliant century by Josh Inglis. He slammed 110 runs off 50 deliveries, with eleven boundaries eight sixes and a strike rate of 220. Steve Smith also played a fine hand of 52 runs at a strike rate of 126.83. In response, Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav’s 112-run stand got India ahead in the game. However, they lost quick wickets and were reduced to 202/5.

With seven needed off the final over, Rinku Singh slammed a boundary off the first delivery. However, they lost three wickets in the next three deliveries. Rinku Singh looked calm, needing 1 run off the final delivery. He smacked a six, but, it wasn’t recorded in the books as Sean Abbott bowled a no-ball, as India got home. The hosts broke several records during the exciting chase.

Records broken by Team India during their thrilling win against Australia in First T20I

– Team India chased down 209 runs in the first T20I against Australia. This is their fifth successive chase of 200-plus runs in T20Is. They rank at the top of the list, with South Africa at second, chasing 200-plus runs on four occasions.

– It was also the highest score chased by Team India in the format. Their earlier best was 208 runs against West Indies in Hyderabad in 2019.

– This is also the highest score chased down against Australia in T20Is. The record was earlier held by India themselves when they chased down 202 runs, in Rajkot in 2013.

– Team India’s struggled with run-outs during the chase in the first T20I. The innings witnessed three run-outs of, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravi Bishnoi and Arshdeep Singh. This is the joint-most for India in a T20I innings. They suffered three run-outs in the 2015 T20I against Zimbabwe at Harare.

Suryakumar Yadav lighted up the stadium with his stunning knock. He slammed four sixes in the innings. With this, he completed 100 sixes for Team India in T20Is at number 3 or below. Eoin Morgan tops the list with 120 sixes.
