Jasprit Bumrah becomes number 1 ranked Test bowler

Star Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah climbs to the top of the ICC Test bowlers’ rankings after picking 9 wickets in the 2nd Test match against England played at Vizag. Bumrah became the top-ranked bowler in Test matches for the first time. He was at his best during 2nd test match at Vizag. His bowling efforts looked brilliant during the first innings picking 6 for 45 that rattled the England batting to bowl them out for 253.

Bumrah bowled with venom getting wickets of Root, Pope, Bairstow, Stokes, Hartley, and James Anderson to help the Indian team take a decent lead. He then came up with another superb bowling effort in the 2nd innings getting wickets of Bairstow, and Foakes, and then shattered the stumps of Hartley to help the Indian team register a 106-run victory. He finished with figures of 3 for 46. For his match-winning efforts, Bumrah was named the player of the match.

He became the first Indian pacer to achieve the milestone of becoming top top-ranked test bowler. Kagiso Rabada remains static at the number 2 position. Star off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin drops down to 3rd place. He picked 3 wickets in the 2nd innings but gave away 61 runs in 12 overs during the first innings. Australian captain Pat Cummins also slips down to number 4th in the bowler’s rankings.

He was not able to perform well during the 2nd Test match against West Indies at Gabba, Brisbane picking just 1 wicket. His teammate Josh Hazlewood occupies the 5th spot. He grabbed 5 wickets in the entire 2nd test match against West Indies at Gabba, Brisbane. Sri Lankan left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya had a great performance in the one-off test match against Afghanistan. He jumps to number 6th place in rankings grabbing 8 wickets including 5 in the 2nd innings that helped Sri Lanka register an easy win.

Veteran England pace bowler James Anderson also had a great outing in the 2nd Test against India at Vizag. He bowled with great control taking 5 wickets. Nathan Lyon impressed with a good performance in the 2nd Test against West Indies at Gabba, Brisbane. He took 5 wickets in the entire test match. Ravindra Jadeja and Ollie Robinson slipped down as they did not feature in the 2nd Test match at Vizag.
