Joe Root, the all-rounder from England, continued his effective bowling performance by dismissing India captain Rohit Sharma on Day 3 of the ongoing third Test in Rajkot on Saturday (February 17).

This breakthrough occurred in the 12th over of India’s second innings when Root, the off-spinner, delivered a full-length ball on the stumps. Rohit missed the sweep shot, and although the umpire initially gave it not out, Root’s prompt encouraged England skipper Ben Stokes to opt for a review.

In the initial innings, Rohit Sharma scored 131 runs from 196 deliveries, featuring three sixes and 14 boundaries.

India’s effective bowling display on Day 3 led to England’s batting collapse, losing their last eight wickets for 95 runs. The visitors were eventually dismissed for 319, granting the hosts a substantial 126-run lead in the first innings.

Mohammed Siraj claimed four wickets, while Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja secured two wickets each. Ben Duckett showcased a stellar performance with the bat, amassing 153 runs from 151 balls, featuring two sixes and five boundaries.

In the second innings, at Tea on Day 3, India stood at 44-1, with Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal at the crease, holding a lead of 170 runs.

India posted a total of 445 in their first innings, led by notable contributions from Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja, who scored 112 off 225 deliveries with two sixes and nine boundaries. Debutants Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel also made valuable contributions, scoring 62 (66) and 46 (104), respectively.

Mark Wood stood out as the top performer among the bowlers for the visitors, claiming four wickets, while Rehan Ahmed secured two wickets. The ongoing five-match Test series between the two teams is currently level at 1-1.
