IND vs ENG: [WATCH] Joe Root Hits Sweep In The Net Session
Joe Root

Veteran batsman and former England captain Joe Root has elevated the ‘Bazball’ phenomenon to new heights. Root, a world-class batter and part of the esteemed ‘big four’ in modern cricket showcased his extraordinary prowess by executing sweep shots in a switch-hit stance during a net session in Vizag. This prompted fans to ponder whether Root possesses equal proficiency as a left-hander.

In an unconventional practice approach, Root assumed a left-hander’s stance during the net session but smoothly transitioned back to his usual stance to execute conventional sweep shots. This unique method of practising the sweep shot raised eyebrows, especially given the imminent Vizag Test in challenging Indian conditions. Despite this innovative approach, Root struggled in the initial two innings of the ongoing Test series against India, registering scores of 29 and 2.

Regarded as a ‘Golden arm’ for England, Root often steps up as a crucial bowler when others face difficulties. In spin-friendly conditions of the subcontinent, Root enjoys bowling and demonstrated this aptitude during the first Test in Hyderabad. He played a pivotal role in restricting Team India to 436 runs by taking a four-wicket haul in the first innings, disrupting their momentum.

Root’s dismissal of Ravindra Jadeja and an impressive delivery to dismiss Jasprit Bumrah showcased his bowling prowess. In the second innings, Root continued his impact by dismissing the in-form KL Rahul, adding to India’s challenges in the run chase. This contribution significantly contributed to England’s historic Test win in Hyderabad. As the second Test in Vizag approaches, Root is eager to make significant contributions with the bat.

Examining Root’s bowling statistics, the off-spinner has amassed 13 wickets in 11 matches with an impressive average of 24.84. Notably, he also boasts a 5-wicket haul in his bowling repertoire. The emergence of ‘Bazball’ has further intensified, with even seasoned pacer James Anderson displaying his left-arm spin skills during a net session in Hyderabad.

With the cricketing community and fans captivated by the Bazball phenomenon, the anticipation is high to witness whether Team India can stage a comeback in the Vizag Test. The unique blend of inventive batting techniques and skilled bowling performances promises an engaging continuation to the India-England Test series.
