Shreyas Iyer has been the stand-out batsman for India in the first test. He scored a ton in the first innings and followed it up with an impressive 65 in the second. Overall, he has scored 170 runs in the Test match. Meanwhile, India’s lead had gone past the 250 run mark and got better within every run being added. 

Meanwhile, the Indian middle-order batsman has added key runs for his team with Ravichandran Ashwin (32) and with Wriddhiman Saha who is inching closer to another Test fifty. Shreyas Iyer has become the third Indian batsman to score a century and a fifty in the same Test match courtesy of his 65 on day 4. His knock has kept India in the game after they were tottering at 51/5 within the first hour of the day’s play.

Meanwhile, Wasim Jaffer has backed Iyer to be retained in the playing Xi for the next Test in Mumbai. With Virat Kohli coming back there is a lot of talk of either Pujara or Rahane making a way for him.

Iyer’s score of 170 in this Test match has taken him to third place in the list of cricketers with the most runs in his debut Test match. Shikhar Dhawan with 187 tops the list closely followed by Rohit Sharma on 177.

Meanwhile, Kyle Jamieson has now taken the most wickets against India in the first four Tests. He has taken 22 wickets against India. He also became the quickest Kiwi pacer to get to 50 Test wickets in just his ninth Test match.
