Ravichandran Ashwin ended up as the Man of the series for his 14 wickets and 70 runs in the series with the bat. However, the Mumbai Test match was all about Ajaz Patel becoming the third bowler in Test cricket history to get all 10 wickets in a Test innings. He joined names like Jim Laker and Anil Kumble in an elite list.

After the game, Ravichandran Ashwin spoke to Ajaz Patel about his achievement. He also gave the Kiwi spinner a signed jersey by all the Indian cricketers as a token of appreciation for his achievement.

After the end of the Test match, Ashwin took to his official Twitter account and tweeted about Ajaz Patel also having an official Twitter account as a mark of his achievement.

Dear @verified, a ten-wicket bag in an innings definitely deserves to be verified here! 😂 @AjazP.

This was Ashwin’s ninth Man of the Series award of his Test career. Apart from scoring 70 runs with the bat in the second Test, he scored 38 and 32 in the first Test adding key partnerships in the process as well besides taking all those wickets.

Ashwin (427 wickets) surpassed Harbhajan Singh (417) during the first Test to become India’s third-highest wicket-taker in Tests. He is only eight wickets away from eclipsing Kapil Dev (434) in the list. Only Anil Kumble has more Test wickets than him with 619 scalps.

“I think I’ve got 10 (Player of the Series awards now). I enjoyed Wankhede honestly, and everyday there was something new, and I could challenge both edges. It was a wonderful performance by Ajaz. It doesn’t spin all the time in Wankhede, and he used the seam and put the ball in the right places, and there was a bit of destiny involved in his 10-for too. Jayant and I have trained together, he flew to Chennai from Haryana in 2014 to pick my mind, so we have a good relation. Axar and I have played since Kings XI. I would like to go to South Africa and win a series there, we haven’t done that before, and hopefully we can do it this time” said Ashwin on his Man of the Series award.
