IND vs NZ 2021: “Everyone Played Their Role Perfectly” – Ravichandran Ashwin On India’s Comeback On Day 3 Of Kanpur Test

The Indian team made a fantastic comeback on day three of the ongoing test match against New Zealand at the Green Park in Kanpur. They managed to take a lead of 49 runs, in the first innings.

The Kiwis began the day with 129 runs on the board at the loss of no wickets. However, things changed after they lost their opener Will Young and skipper Kane William for 197 runs on the board. Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin scripted a brilliant comeback for their side. Axar Patel took a five-for, while Ashwin scalped three wickets to bowl New Zealand out for 296.

Reflecting on the team’s performance, Ravichandran Ashwin expressed that everyone played their role perfectly. He added, that it was tough to bowl more than a hundred overs and concede runs at less than a 2.5 economy rate. Ashwin said on Starsports, as quoted by Crictracker,

“Look, I thought we stuck together really well as a bowling unit. 130-140 overs on that sort of pitch and going less than 2.5 runs per over, it was always going to be hard work and we were prepared for that,”

“Everyone played their role perfectly. I felt the new ball was an easier time to bat in terms of scoring runs, but we got wickets with the second new ball,” he added.

I am shutting the outside noise better than I have ever done – Ravichandran Ashwin

Ashwin

Ravichandran recently made a comeback in the T20 format for India. He was also part of the Indian team in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Ashwin has been in good form lately for India. The off-spinner feels that he is silencing the critics better than ever. Ashwin said,

“I thought it was a wonderful effort. Sometimes it is easier said than done. I cannot be saying cliched things. I have lived through expectations for a while now, for me, cricket is the purpose of my life. I am at that stage where I am shutting the outside noise better than I have ever done.”

Ashwin is the leading wicket-taker in test cricket this year. He has picked 41 wickets at an average of 18.70 in 7 test matches.
