Ishant Sharma has been one of the best fast bowlers to come out of the country in recent time. In the last few years, he has witnessed a steep rise in the career graph, especially in red-ball cricket. Ishant has also done exceedingly well in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Recently, during an Instagram Live chat, he revealed the name of the best coach he has played under.

The tall and lanky fast bowler made his first impression when he made former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting his bunny in 2007-08. Since then, the graph has only gone up for the fast bowler from Delhi. Throughout his stint, Ishant Sharma has played under some of the best coaches in IPL and in the Indian team.

Recently, during a live chat session from his IPL franchise Delhi Capitals’ Instagram handle, Ishant revealed the name of his favourite coach. Quite evidently, the fast bowler went his current Delhi coach Ricky Ponting. Ishant worked with Ponting last year in the IPL.

“He’s the best coach I’ve ever met. I was very nervous when I was making a return to the IPL last season. I was almost feeling like a debutante walking into the camp the first day, but he gave me a lot of confidence since the first day I arrived at the Delhi Capitals’ camp,” said Ishant.

“He just told me, ‘You’re a senior player and you should help the youngsters. Just don’t worry about anything – you’re my first choice.’ And I think that bit of conversation really helped me,” the experienced pacer added.

Meanwhile, Ishant Sharma, who is a regular feature in the Test side, hope to attain more consistency and has set his eyes on the ICC World Test Championship. India are currently at the top spot with 360 points and hope to keep up their dominant run.
