Former India head coach Ravi Shastri feels that Team India will have the home advantage in the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023. He expressed that the team should back itself to win the series by a two-match margin. The much-awaited series will kick off on February 9 at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur.

Team India has won the last three Border Gavaskar Trophy contests. They last played against Australia at home in 2017 and emerged winners by a 2-1 margin. With the upcoming series to be played in India, Ravi Shastri expressed that the host has the bowlers to use the conditions well. Predicting the result of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Shastri said during an interaction on Star Sport,

“As far as the series result goes, I think India should back themselves to win this series by a two-match margin. You’re playing at home; you’ve got the bowlers for that. You’ve got the batting line-up as well. I think you’ve got to put pressure from Test match one.”

I want the ball to turn from Day 1: Ravi Shastri

Ahead of the first test in the Border Gavaskar Trophy, there has been a lot of talk about the Indian pitches, which primarily suit the spinners. Former head coach Ravi Shastri wants the wickets to offer help to the bowlers from the first day. Speaking at a press conference facilitated by Star Sports, he said,

“I want the ball to turn from Day 1! If you lose the toss, so be it. You want to see the ball turning a bit. Or something there for the bowlers on offer from Day 1. It’s your strength. You’re playing at home. Capitalize on it.”

The Border Gavaskar Trophy will begin in Nagpur, followed by the second Test at Delhi. The final two tests will take place in Dharmashala and Ahmedabad.
