India Should Not Look Beyond MS Dhoni If He Is Fit – Wasim Jaffer

With Indian Premier League (IPL) being postponed until April 15, the fans will have to wait longer to see their favourite MS Dhoni return to the cricket field. He last played during the ICC 2019 World Cup in England and since then went on a sabbatical following a poor run with the bat.

Since then, he has been on a sabbatical and a lot has been spoken over his return to the national team. Although he is anticipated to return to Team India for one final time during the ICC T20 World Cup later this year but Dhoni is yet to speak a word on that. The former India skipper was looking forward to IPL 2020 to come back to the scheme of things.

Meanwhile, the spectrum has been divided into two halves on MS Dhoni’s retirement. While many feel the management should look beyond the veteran cricketer, the other half feels Dhoni still has a lot to offer to the national side. Wasim Jaffer, who recently announced his retirement, joined the long bandwagon who feels India should not look beyond Dhoni if he is fit.

“If Dhoni is fit and in form I think we can’t look beyond him as he’ll be an asset behind the stumps and also lower down the order. It’ll take the pressure of keeping off Rahul and India can play Pant as a batsman too if they want a lefty. #Dhoni #MSDhoni #IPL2020,” Wasim Jaffer spoke his mind on Twitter.

MS Dhoni was earlier dropped from BCCI’s central contract list, which was perhaps a sign that the board is looking at younger alternatives. But Wasim Jaffer, who is the leading run-scorer in Ranji Trophy, feels India can’t look afford to look beyond the legendary wicket-keeper batsman.
