Indian T20I skipper Rohit Sharma is looking to get past Virat Kohli as the leading run-scorer for India in T20Is. Virat is leading the tally with 3227 runs at the moment. Rohit is 87 short at the moment with 3141 runs in 118 innings. Rohit has scored 48 and 55 in the first two games and looks good to top the T20I run-scoring charts.

Indian ODI and Test skipper Virat Kohli has been rested for the T20I series against the Kiwis. He will be rested for the first Test too and will return to the squad for the second Test as the skipper of the side. Earlier on Friday, Rohit’s knock of 55 helped him equal Kohli’s world record of most fifty-plus scores in T20I cricket.

Martin Guptill went past Virat’s tally of runs to become the leading run-getter in the shorter format, having scored a 17-ball 31 in the second T20I in Ranchi. He has scored 3248 runs in 107 innings.

Highest Run-Getters In T20Is

1- Martin Guptill (New Zealand) – 3,231
2 – Virat Kohli (India) – 3,227
3 – Rohit Sharma (India) – 3141

Rohit Sharma Has Won His First Series As India’s T20I Skipper

Rohit Sharma has already won his first T20I series as India’s full-time T20I skipper. He now is aiming for a clean sweep against a Kiwi side without their skipper Kane Williamson.

Without Williamson, this is almost the same side that beat India in the T20 World Cup game in Dubai and knocked them out of the tournament. This Indian side was expected to bounce back after their T20 World Cup debacle and the side has performed to the expectations in the first two games.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma had his say when questioned on rotation policy and testing the bench strength in the series. The weight behind the question was Yuzvendra Chahal’s non-selection in the series so far.

“It is a young team and the guys haven’t played a lot of games.  Important that the guys get time in the middle. It is early to think about changes in the next game. Whatever suits team India, we’ll do that. We need to make sure we look after the guys who are playing now. They haven’t played a lot either. For the guys who haven’t played, their time will come, there are a lot of T20s” said Rohit.
