Virat Kohli was removed from ODI captaincy under the most dramatic of circumstances. There are plenty of conjectures associated with how BCCI decided to remove Virat Kohli as the ODI captain of the side and put Rohit Sharma in his place. He will still remain as the skipper of the Test side none in the team can potentially replace a player of Kohli’s stature.

Seeing Virat Kohli’s captaincy tenure as the ODI skipper of the Indian team ending on an abrupt note, those in the know of the developments expect Ganguly to play a bigger role in handling the entire scenario.

“Which is fine (the change in captaincy). Rohit’s time has come, and he must take fresh guard as leader of the pack. And Virat must accept it. But what’s a matter of serious concern here is how the BCCI, especially (its president) Sourav Ganguly, has chosen to address this issue,” those closely tracking developments were quoted as saying by the Times of India.

The BCCI decided to remove Kohli as the ODI captain without any prior notice or intimation. The lack of proper reasoning behind Kohli’s call has left the Indian cricket fraternity in shock and absolute disbelief.

Right Now Virat Kohli Needs The BCCI: Sources

BCCI president-elect Sourav Ganguly has a message for Virat Kohli-led Indian team

“And right now, Kohli needs the BCCI. To overcome that embarrassment, to overcome the anger and frustration he might be going through. Is Ganguly-the-BCCI-president going to stand by his cricketer the way the BCCI stood for him all those years ago?” say those watching this space closely.

“Other office-bearers of the BCCI, including secretary Jay Shah, may be acquiring administrative experience. But Ganguly – by virtue of having been the India captain and a 116-Test veteran – has serious cricketing experience. Will he put that to use and help Kohli find his feet again?” the fraternity asserted.
