Cricketers representing other sport is really a “rare” event. While several fans are aware of the fact that Viv Richards had represented his national football side once, there aren”t any other notable players to replicate the same. Now, there”s a delighting news for all the Indian fans out there.
1983 World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev is all set to represent the country again. But not in cricket. The 59-year-old will now represent India in the Asia Pacific Seniors Golf championship.
He received this call after his brilliance in the recently concluded All India seniors tournament at Noida. It is really a joyous moment for all the fans of “Haryana hurricane” who will be back on the field (a different one though!!) after two decades.
Speaking on his interest towards the game, Kapil said “In golf, you have total control over your body, power, strength, and the result is yours. You can”t raise a finger on anybody. I think that gave me the strength, so I can criticise myself and I can say that I played bad,” Dev told IndulgExpress.
This golf championship is open for seniors above the age of 55. Kapil Dev had been one of the most reliable all-rounders for Indian cricket in the earlier generations. He last represented the side in 1994 and all eyes will be on this tournament if he can return victorious.
Can Kapil create an impact in this field? What do you think?
