The Indian teen sensation Shafali Verma has been appointed as the captain for the inaugural edition of the Under 19 Women’s World Cup to be played in South Africa from 14th-29th January 2023.

Shafali Verma created an impact with her aggressive badminton while opening for the Indian senior team. The young teen sensation has played 46 T20Is, 21 ODIs and two Test matches. Richa Ghosh is also a part of the Indian senior team also features in the Indian Under 19 squad.

The Indian team has decent batting order with the likes of Shewta Sherawat, Gongadi Trisha, Soumya Tiwari and Soniya Mendhiya.

India’s pace bowling department comprises Titas Sadhu, Hurley Gala, Falak Naz and Shabnam MD have been included. Gala offers a power-hitting option along with her pace bowling. Mannat Kashyap, Sonam Yadav, off-spinner Archana Devi and leg spinner Parshavi Chopra have been included. Hrishita Basu could be used as the wicketkeeping option for Richa Ghosh.

This will be the first time that the Under 19 Women’s World is being held. Indian women have been clubbed with United Arab Emirates, South Africa and Scotland in Group D. They will take on South Africa in their opening match to be played on January 14.

Team India have a great prospect in the mega event

There will be three teams in each group to qualify for the Super Six stage. The Super Six stage will include two teams that will qualify for the semi-finals. Shafali Verma has played 46 T20Is with 1091 runs at a strike rate of 134.52. The Indian team would look to create an impact and hope to show their mettle in the global event.

The Indian team will play 5 T20I matches against South Africa before the T20 World Cup to be played from 27th December to 4 January 2023 in Pretoria.
