Team India will go into the last T20I against struggling Sri Lanka with full confidence to be played at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai tomorrow. Rohit Sharma played captains knock for Men in Blue with a joint fastest century in 35 balls.
The Indian captain made 118 off 43 balls while his opening partner KL Rahul also contributed 89 runs. Both openers added the highest opening partnership for India in T20Is putting on 165 runs in 12.4 overs.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni also contributed 28 runs coming at number 3. The rest of batsmen like Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, Dinesh Karthik did not get enough balls to score runs. In the bowling department, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav picked 7 wickets between them. Kuldeep Yadav took 3 wickets in an over which changed the course of the game. Also, Yuzvendra Chahal went for 52 runs but picked another 4 wicket haul.
It was another tough game for Sri Lanka as the bowlers were smashed all-round the park. Thisara Perera and Nuwan Pradeep picked 2 wickets each. Their experienced bowler Mathews could his 4 overs due to a hamstring injury.
Sri Lanka conceded a huge total of 260 for 5. While chasing, Upul Tharanga (47) and Kusal Perera ( 77) played with positive intent. Both of them added 109 runs for the 2nd wicket. After Tharanga wicket, Sri Lanka lost wickets at regular intervals and was bowled out for 172 in 17.2 overs.
India must try youngsters like Basil Thampi, Deepak Hooda or Washington Sundar. This is the last chance for the team management to test these youngsters. They might rest Jasprit Bumrah and give Basil Thampi a chance.
Rohit Sharma would be looking to play with positive intent at his home ground. With a good batting pitch at Mumbai, another high scoring match is on the cards.
Sri Lanka has been dealt with a major blow as Mathews has been ruled out of the third T20I due to a hamstring injury. The visitors would be hoping a good performance to end the year on a good note. They lost the test series and ODI series.
India will be looking to end the home season on a high note and win the 3rd T20I to climb up the rankings at 2nd place.
