IPL 2017 : David Warner way ahead of the rest for the Orange Cap: Until the time Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) played against Sun Risers Hyderabad (SRH) at Hyderabad, the KKR skipper, Gautam Gambhir, with a tally of 376 runs from 9 games, was the proud owner of the orange cap, at that point of time.

However, the game against SRH which KKR lost by a margin of 48 runs saw the orange cap shift ‘head’.

The skipper of SRH, David Warner, who was trailing Gambhir by 43 runs until then, went past him with a wonderful knock of 126 runs off just 59 balls, studded with 10 fours and 8 sixes in the game against KKR. Gambhir scored only 11 runs in that game.

This knock coupled with contributions from Warner’s opening partner, Shikhar Dhawan (29) and Kane Williamson (40) helped SRH put up a huge total of 209 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in their quota of 20 overs.

KKR, after a string of wins, faltered big time and could notch up only 161 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs.

This innings of Warner helped him don the orange cap on his head.

Gambhir failed to score big in the next game also against Royal Pune Supergiant (RPS) that was played at Eden Gardens.

With his personal score of 24 runs in the match, he still lags behind Warner by a good 78 runs before he could reclaim the OC.

KKR still have three more games to play while SRH have four more in the round robin league stage. Gambhir needs to clearly pull himself up and play really great innings in order to be in a position to don the orange cap.
