The 33-year-old right-handed hitter injured his hamstring in the opening match against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede stadium.

He walked out off the ground as he pulled his hamstring in the 13th over. Jadhav returned in the final over of the innings and played a vital role in registering Chennai”s maiden win after their return to IPL.

Kedar has represented two franchises prior to a Chennai. As a key middle-order batsman, he played his part as a full-time hitter at Delhi and Bangalore franchise in the past. His exclusion has come as a shock and Chennai have to really ponder in tinkering their batting lineup before their next encounter with Kolkata.

Jadhav was bought by the Chennai franchise earlier in January for a whopping 7.8 crore.

Speaking to the media, Mike Hussey the batting coach said “Unfortunately for us, Kedhar Jadhav has been ruled out for the rest of the tournament. His hamstring scan did not come back so good. I believe it is a Grade 2 tear and he is going to be out for some period of time. We haven”t picked a replacement as yet but we will go through the process. It is a big loss for us because he is obviously a very good player and a key player in that middle order. There are big shoes to fill for that little man I guess. “

Jadhav is now the second member from the Chennai camp to be ruled out of injury. A month ago, NZ all-rounder Santner was ruled out for his leg injury. While no replacement has been announced yet from the franchise, it is expected to be out soon.
