Chris Gayle has returned to practice for Kings XI Punjab after recovering from the stomach bug that kept him out of the game first against Sunrisers Hyderabad and then against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Kings XI coach Anil Kumble said that the Universe Boss had been hit by food poisoning which is why he couldn’t take the field against SRH. Subsequently, Chris Gayle missed out against KKR as well as Punjab lost both their games.

“Chris Gayle was going to play today’s match but he is sick. He is down with food poisoning that’s why he isn’t in the playing eleven,” Head Coach Anil Kumble had told commentators during the game against SRH.

Chris Gayle returns to practice for Kings XI Punjab

With Kings XI Punjab lying at the bottom of the points table, Chris Gayle returning to practice is a welcome news for them. Kings XI batting coach Wasim Jaffer, earlier in the tournament said that Gayle will be back in the playing XI soon. Well, now with Kings XI having their backs against the wall. it should be a timely return for the big West Indian left-hander.

“Chris looks very much ready and is keen to get on to the park, he has been training really well and has looked really good in the nets,” batting coach Wasim Jaffer had mentioned to Kings XI Punjab a while back prior to the stomach infection, in an exclusive interview,” he said.

Kings XI have played seven games in the season so far, winning just one so far. They will potentially have to win all the next seven games to give themselves any chance of making it to the playoffs.

Punjab have both of their openers KL Rahul (387) and Mayank Agarwal (337) in the Orange Cap players list. However, despite that Punjab still find themselves at the bottom of the points table.

Punjab skipper Rahul has been guilty of scoring runs at a relatively slow strike-rate. However, he has played down that quotient of his game in his recent post-match interactions after Punjab’s string of losses.
