Chennai Super Kings have finally hit the stride with their convincing win over Kings XI Punjab after back-to-back defeats in IPL 2020. Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson shared a record opening stand to secure a 10-wicket win. However, du Plessis is facing some injury concerns ahead of their next tie against Kolkata Knight Riders.

The veteran South African batsman has been the lynchpin in Chennai set-up in IPL 2020. He has led the batting unit from the front and is the leading run-scorer for the Super Kings in IPL 2020. He and Shane Watson scored impressive unbeaten fifties to power the three-time champions to the much-needed win against KXIP.

Faf du Plessis seen sporting ice pack

Watson remained unbeaten on 83 while Faf du Plessis remained unbeaten on 87 as CSK chased down the 179-run target with more than two overs remaining and all the ten wickets intact. But soon after the game, du Plessis was seen sporting an ice pack.

Following their encounter, Chennai Super Kings shared a clip from their post-match celebration where Faf du Plessis was icing his hamstring. The humid conditions in the UAE have been taken a toll on the fitness of the cricketers and the Super Kings will hope that it is not something serious.

However, it is likely to be a precautionary measure and Faf du Plessis is likely to be available for Chennai’s next encounter. The MS Dhoni-led side will play Kolkata knight Riders next on October 7 (Wednesday) at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

Meanwhile, if the Proteas batsman misses out, it will be a massive setback for the three-time IPL champions. They are currently placed sixth in the points table with four wins from five matches. So far, Faf du Plessis have scored 285 from five games at a colossal average of 94 including three fifties.
