Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni was awarded a golden cap at a pre-season dinner organised by the team management on Thursday. The other players were given customised gifts in the evening as well. CSK play the season opener against Mumbai Indians on Saturday, September 19.

The CSK players gave a glimpse of their gifts to their fans by posting it on social media. Stephen Fleming, the CSK coach, along with team’s fielding coach, presented Dhoni with the customised gift. CSK’s Twitter handle shared a post of the same.

Dhoni awarded Golden Cap by CSK

The contribution of MS Dhoni for Chennai is paramount. Dhoni has led the franchise in every season it has been part of IPL and a golden cap was an apt present for the leader of the Yellow Army.

Fleming who played for the franchise in the first IPL season in 2008, was roped in as the coach of the MS Dhoni-led side since 2009. Since then, the Dhoni-Fleming combination has delivered three IPL titles for the franchise.

MS Dhoni Announced International Retirement on 15th August 2020

MS Dhoni announced his international retirement on 15th August and now will only play IPL for CSK. The 2019 World Cup semi-final against New Zealand was Dhoni’s last international match for India.

He hasn’t played cricket for more than 14 months as he heads into the IPL to lead CSK. Cricket pundits have said that now having retired from international cricket, MS Dhoni will be seen playing more freely in the IPL. They have even predicted that the former Indian skipper will bat at number four throughout the season.

MS Dhoni To Miss Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh

Meanwhile, the three-time IPL champions will miss Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh in IPL 2020. The two senior players decided to opt-out from the season due to personal reasons. Moreover, the CSK camp was badly hurt when 13 members of the squad tested COVID-19 positive.

Among the members included Deepak Chahar and Ruturaj Gaikwad. While Chahar has recovered, Gaikwad is yet to recover and will miss the IPL 2020 opener against Mumbai Indians.

Heading into the IPL 2020 opener, Mumbai lead the head to head count between the two teams. The tally reads 17-11 in Mumbai’s favor who have beaten CSK in three IPL finals (2013, 2015, 2019).
