IPL 2020 is just upon us as players and fans are eagerly waiting for the action to begin. This year due to the COVID-19 pandemic the BCCI had to shift the IPL to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Earlier, many thought that much like other sporting activities around the world IPL too will take place behind closed doors.

With IPL now under 3 weeks away, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has given a major update regarding fans during matches in IPL 2020. Ganguly has hinted their there might we a possibility that soon we may see around 30% crowd attend the IPL matches in UAE this year.

Ganguly said, “Because of the COVID and infection, you don’t want people to be too close to each other, but very soon you will see there will be 30 per cent people in the ground with social distancing”.

He further added, “They are properly tested and allowed to enter the ground. But I think that is going to happen over a period of time. We could have easily avoided the IPL…but then, that’s what we humans are and that’s why we have survived all the difficult time”.

Meanwhile, IPL 2020 might break all television ratings this year. All Indian fans will not be able to watch the matches in stadiums live this year but will be glued to their television sets throughout IPL 2020.

“Crowds will watch it on television, broadcasters are actually expecting the highest rating of IPL this season because they believe if (people) don’t turn up in the ground, they will be watching on their television sets. There is a positive in everything”, Ganguly said.

Moreover, the IPL 2020 will take place in a bio-secure bubble from September 19 to November 10 in the UAE. BCCI today is likely to announce the much-anticipated schedule of IPL 2020.
