After promoting Lalit Yadav up in the order in yesterday’s game against Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals’ skipper Rishabh Pant applauded him for rotating the strike and displaying maturity on the field. Lalit paced up his innings last night and played a pivotal role in DC’s triumph. The Rishabh Pant-led side is currently placed 2nd in the IPL 2021 points table.

Yadav, who walked in before Pant yesterday, took the match to last over. After Shikhar Dhawan and Steve Smith set up the base in their pursuit of 137, Yadav accelerated the chase and crossed the finishing line. Although he managed only 22 runs but Lalit Yadav held one end tight to take the game deep.

Chasing at MA Chidambaram has not been any cakewalk. Most of the teams have stumbled while chasing a below-par total even. DC needed Yadav to on the field till the end, and Yadav met their expectations. Delhi chased down the target with five balls to spare. After the game, Pant said that Lalit Yadav could do wonders for them.

“I think Lalit is a great Indian talent, and we are looking to groom him. He can do wonders for us in a wicket like this,” Rishabh Pant said.

Earlier, veteran spinner Amit Mishra was brilliant with the ball. Mishra took four wickets in his allotted four overs, conceding just 24 runs. Rishab Pant praised the veteran leg-spinner for derailing the title defenders with crucial wickets in the middle overs.

“When we started, we were a little under pressure. Mishy Bhai (Amit Mishra) brought us back into the game,” Pant said at the post-match presentation. “The bowlers did a fantastic job to stop them for 138 runs because, yes, it is a low-scoring match, but still it is a difficult pitch to bat on,” Rishabh Pant added.

Batting first, Rohit Sharma’s MI faced challenges DC bowlers, especially from Mishra and Avesh Khan. Rohit Sharma’s 44 was the highest individual score MI last night. In response, Delhi Capitals, despite losing Prithvi Shaw, floated in the game till the game. Dhawan hit 45 off 42, and Smith quickly fired 33 runs.
