Kolkata Knight Riders head coach Brendon McCullum had his views on Morgan’s current form in the IPL 2021. KKR skipper Eoin Morgan has scuffled all through the tournament. With only 109 runs in 12 matches at an average of 10.98 for the KKR skipper, things are getting even tougher for them after their loss against the Punjab Kings in a nail-biting encounter last night.

McCullum felt Morgan has “captained the side brilliantly” while some of the other factors to have been working for the KKR skipper.

“He’s one of our senior players. He’s one of our international batters and in his own head, he would have loved to contribute more runs. I think he’s captained the side really well. But look, you want some more runs from him there’s no doubt in there. You need runs from your overseas players and you particularly need in those key spots as well. I am confident he will come alright. Some guys are really going well,” Brendon McCullum said in a statement.

Doubtful about the balance of the playing XI: Brendon McCullum

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) has a team that has struggled throughout the tournament with big guns like Andre Russell getting injured. The Caribbean all-arounder getting injured, it’s always difficult to balance your side, Brendon McCullum added in his statement.

“We got home in Sharjah but we felt a batter short. We felt if we are able to play the extra batter, we can utilise the bowling of Venkatesh Iyer and Rana, who is a very cagey bowler. When you take one of your big players out, who happens to be an allrounder, you always have that delicate balance to try and balance your side. You have to either go with your batting strong or bowling strong. In hindsight, when we got 160-odd, it would have been nice to have another bowler,” the former Kiwi captain said.

Eoin Morgan led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) has only managed to earn 10 points from 12 matches. KKR certainly look doubtful for finishing in the top 4 this IPL 2021. They will need to win their remaining fixtures against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and competitors Rajasthan Royals (RR)  keeping Net Run Rate in mind to qualify for the playoffs.
