Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have been reprimanded for maintaining a slow over-rate against defending champions Mumbai Indians on Thursday in Abu Dhabi. Incidentally, they thrashed Rohit Sharma & Co, chasing down 156 runs in just 15.1 overs.

KKR skipper Eoin Morgan has been fined 24 lakh while rest of the members of the KKR playing XI were each fined lesser of either 6 lakh or 25 percent of their individual match fee, BCCI said in a statement.

“The Kolkata Knight Riders have been fined after they maintained a slow over rate during their VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 match against Mumbai Indians at the Zayed Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi on September 23,” read an official IPL statement.

“As it was the team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Kolkata Knight Riders captain Eoin Morgan was fined 24 lakhs.

“The rest of the members of the playing XI were each fined lesser of either 6 lakhs or 25 percent of their individual match fee,” it added.

KKR jump to the fourth of the points table

The purple and gold brigade have made a good start to the UAE leg of IPL 2021. After defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the first match, they have convincingly beaten Mumbai Indians to come up in the points table.

Batting first, Mumbai could only manage 155 runs despite a good opening partnership from Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock. KKR bowlers especially Sunil Narine bowled exceedingly well in the middle overs to contain the easy flow of runs.

In reply, Venkatesh Iyer once again gave KKR a swashbuckling start along with Rahul Tripathi, who played a match-winning knock of 74 runs. The Knight Riders sailed past the target within 15.1 overs with seven wickets to spare to pocket two crucial points.
