Punjab Kings lost their second game on the trot in IPL 2021. They lost to a power-packed Delhi Capitals side who chased down 196 to win with an over and four balls to spare. They had six wickets in hand as well. This win takes them to the second position in the points table while Punjab is placed seventh on the points table. This was the fourth successful run chase at this venue in this season so far. More about match 11 report in detail below.

Chasing 196 to win, Delhi Capitals got off to a quick start courtesy of their openers. Prithvi Shaw (36 off 17) and Shikhar Dhawan (92 off 49) added 59 inside the powerplay to set up the chase. Dhawan went off to anchor the chase with players playing around him. He fell short of his third IPL ton in the 15th overs of their innings. Delhi skipper Rishabh Pant (15 off 11) then fell as well. Marcus Stoinis then played a cameo scoring (27 off 13) and with Lalit Yadav (12 off6) scored the remaining runs with 8 balls to spare. Dhawan for his 92 was awarded the Man of the Match in the game.

Death Bowling Woes Keep Punjab Kings Thinking

Death bowling came back to haunt Punjab Kings yet again. Mohammed Shami bowled an expensive start of 53 for the Kings. The Australian duo of Meredith and Richardson found bowling tough on this wicket. They gave way too many easy deliveries which were dealt with by the Delhi batsmen. They also bowled no-balls which cost them key wickets.

Earlier in the game, Delhi Capitals won the toss and opted to bowl keeping the dew factor in mind. It ultimately turned out to be the deciding factor in the game as the Punjab bowlers found gripping the ball difficult in the back half of the run chase. KL Rahul (69) and Mayank Agarwal (61) added 122 for the first wicket. They ultimately 195/4 after their 20 overs. Deepak Hooda’s 22 and Shahrukh Khan’s 15 powered them to over 190 at the end of their batting stint. However, the total did not prove enough in the end by KL Rahul’s own admission.

Chris Woakes and Kagiso Rabada went for over 10 runs per over throughout their spell. Ravichandran Ashwin went for 28 while Avesh Khan went for 33 taking the wicket of Nicholas Pooran in his spell.

After the opposite results match 11 of IPL 2021, the Kings finish their first phase of matches at the Wankhede stadium. They now play SRH (April 21) and Mumbai Indians (April 23) in Chennai. Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals too travel to Chennai to play the same opponents as Punjab Kings on April 20 and 25.
