IPL 2021, Match 23 CSK vs SRH: Emphatic Win Takes Chennai Super Kings Top Of The Table

Chennai Super Kings beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven wickets in match 23 of IPL 2021 in Delhi on Wednesday. They have yet again displaced RCB from the top of the table courtesy of this win, while SRH is continuing to languish at the bottom of the table. This was CSK’s fifth win in a row after they lost their campaign opener against Delhi Capitals. More about the report in detail below.

Chasing 172 to win, CSK openers Ruturaj Gaikwad (75) and Faf Du Plessis (56) added 129 runs for the first wicket to set up the game for CSK. Moeen Ali (15 off 8) played a quick cameo and then Suresh Raina (17 off 15) and Ravindra Jadeja (7 off 6) to hand an easy win for CSK with nine balls to spare.

Chennai Super Kings Outplay SRH in Delhi

None of the Sunrisers bowlers looked to be attacking as Rashid Khan too was well negated by the openers. Though the Afghan spinner ended his spell with 3/36 it will a little too late for Hyderabad’s liking.

Earlier in the game, SRH skipper David Warner won the toss and opted to bat first. This was the very first time SRH batted first in the season. Though they lost just three wickets, they were 10-20 runs short than the end score that they finally set. They scored 171/3 after a slowish start. Warner especially found run-scoring difficult in his innings of 55-ball 57. On his comeback game Manish Pandey scored 61 off 46 balls. It was also the 150th IPL game for the Karnataka batsman.

CSK and SRH have three more games to play in Delhi. CSK play Mumbai Indians next while Hyderabad play Rajasthan Royals next. CSK and RCB are the two teams on 10 points each after first six games in IPL 2021.
