Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra feels Mumbai Indians (MI) should take tough decisions and make changes to their playing XI for the upcoming matches in Indian Premier League 2021.
Mumbai Indians suffered their sixth loss of this season on Sunday. They failed to chase down 165 runs and lost the match by 54 runs against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. The Rohit Sharma-led team is seventh on the points table and needs to win all their remaining matches to stand a chance to make it to the playoffs.
In a video shared on Aakash Chopra’s Youtube Channel, the former cricketer has expressed that the Mumbai Indians should alter their playing XI and not depend on the reputation of players. He said,
“Mumbai, if you want your fortunes to change, then change the players. If someone is not scoring runs with the bat and is not looking in form, then the form is more important than reputation. I know it is sad but this is what it is.”
Aakash Chopra further suggested that the Mumbai Indians should play Chris Lynn in place of Ishan Kishan and Dhawal Kulkarni in place of Adam Milne. He said,
“One change – seriously do it. Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya – this is not happening. So play Chris Lynn and keep him at No. 3, Surya at No. 4, Pollard at No. 5, Hardik at No. 6, and Krunal at No. 7.Play Dhawal Kulkarni in place of Adam Milne. This is your one chance.”
Aakash Chopra suggests another playing combination for Mumbai Indians
In the other playing combination suggested by Aakash Chopra, he has brought in Saurabh Tiwary in place of Ishan, and Nathan Coulter-Nile in place of Adam Milne. Aakash Chopra stated,
“Another chance is if you want to play Adam Milne or Nathan Coulter-Nile for Adam Milne, for example, then in place of Ishan Kishan I would say you should play Saurabh Tiwary because the No.3 and No.4 you have kept together is not working out.”
The former cricketer signed off by pointing out that the Mumbai Indians don’t have many tough oppositions to play against in the remaining matches.
“If Mumbai doesn’t stabilize now, when will they do that? The thing in Mumbai’s favor is that only one of the remaining encounters is a really tight one, other than that the rest of the matches are not that difficult. They do have a chance if they win today,” Aakash Chopra concluded.
