Former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar wants AB De Villiers to open the batting for Royal Challengers Bangalore after his matchwinning innings against Delhi Capitals. De Villiers scored 75 off 42 balls to take their score to 171/5 after their 20 overs which was just enough for a win. Meanwhile, Gavaskar has been always advocating the fact that the best batsmen in the team should face the most number of falls and he has repeated himself once again in case of De Villiers.
Talking to Star Sports Sunil Gavaskar said that he was taken aback by AB De Villiers’ audacious and jaw-dropping shots. AB De Villiers also went past 5000 IPL runs. he became the sixth overall and only the second overseas player to get to that landmark.
“It’s amazing. It’s just magical. You can walk around the earth, just to see this man bat because he brings in so much. He gives you so much joy, he makes your jaw drop with the kind of audacity with which he plays some shots,” said Gavaskar on Star Sports.

Having retired in 2018, De Villiers no competitive cricket for five months heading into the IPL 2021. He last played in IPL 202 for RCB in the UAE. He took 23 off Marcus Stoinis 20th over to take RCB over 170 which just proved enough.
Gavaskar further said that De Villiers should open the batting for RCB as that would allow him to play 20 overs.
AB De Villiers Should Open The Batting For RCB: Sunil Gavaskar
“Listen, why don’t you send him to open the batting because we can get to see more of him rather than him coming in the 10th or the 11th over. Let’s see 20 overs of ABD’, that’s what I, as a former batsman, always say when I see AB de Villiers in this kind of form,” he said.
