Varun Chakravarty delivered a match-winning performance against Royal Challengers Bangalore in his side’s first match in the UAE leg. Courtesy his heroics, KKR bowled out RCB for a paltry 92 and won the match inside 10 overs. This win takes them to the fifth position in the points table with a positive net run rate.
Varun Chakravarty looked back at his spell of 3/13 and here is what he said after the match.

“I try to assess the pitch first. It was flat only. Would like to give credit to the bowlers who bowled in the powerplay for the discipline. There wasn’t much in the pitch. Wasn’t much spin on offer so I had to keep it on the stumps. I thought it was out (the hattrick ball) but just saw the replay that there was an inside edge. Definitely made me feel better, and got a sense of acceptance from the people around me. Started very late in my career. Now me getting picked for India gives me a sense of acceptance” said Chakravarty.
RCB skipper Virat Kohli scored five on his 200th game for the franchise. Meanwhile, this was also KKr’s 200th IPL game which ended in a win.
“We have five wins from eight games, we expect a loss here and there in this tournament. That’s part and parcel of things. You have to take it in your stride like you take your victories in your strides as well. We just need to be professional and stick to our strengths and make sure that we execute the plans that we have properly on the field. We have absolute confidence on this squad that we’ll be able to pull up from the next game onwards and put in strong performances” said Kohli.
KKR skipper Eoin Morgan welcomed his team back to winning ways. He saif that the timing of the win was perfect given that they had a forgetful first half of the season.
The timing of it is excellent. The talent we have within our squad, sometimes that counts for nothing. You have to go out there and show how good you are. Was 50-50 about the toss. Bowlers have had an outstanding day today. Maxwell, AB, Virat – we got on top of them which is fantastic and really rare. Have a long way to go. Need a lot of things to go right for us. Today was the perfect start. Maybe makes us a dangerous side – we haven’t turned up to the tournament so far” said Morgan.
