IPL 2021: Virender Sehwag Predicts The Winner Of The League

The Indian Premier League 2021 season is all set to resume from Sunday, September 19 in the United Arab Emirates. Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag has predicted the winners of the extravagant T20 league for this season.

The Delhi Capitals and the Chennai Super Kings are the top two sides on the points table in the tournament so far. While the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Mumbai Indians are third and fourth respectively.

In an interaction with PTI, Virender Sehwag opined that the defending Champions, Mumbai Indians, and the runners-up, Delhi Capitals are favorites to win the league.

“Since the second half has been shifted to Dubai and Abu Dhabi, I think Delhi and Mumbai will again be favorites and the five-time champions are slightly ahead. Chennaiā€™s average score in India was 201 during the first phase but I think when it comes to UAE tracks, they would be lacking a bit in batting firepower. If I have to pick one team, that will be Mumbai,” Sehwag said as quoted by the Hindustan Times.

Performances in the UAE leg of IPL 202 can result in changes to India’s T20 WC squad: Virender Sehwag

Virender Sehwag also believes that the UAE leg of IPL 2021, gives the players a chance to book a slot in India’s T20 WC squad. As a minimum of seven matches are remaining for each team, great performances can lead to change in India’s 15-member squad, Sehwag added.

“100%. We have around seven matches minimum left for the teams. That means you still have a platform to perform. And those who are on the fringes could still impress the Indian selectors who would be watching the tournament closely. Since ICC allows a window to change teams, I will not be surprised if there are some changes in the original squad,” Virender Sehwag signed off.
