Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) beat Mumbai Indians by seven wickets in match 34 of IPL 2021 in Abu Dhabi on Thursday. This is their second straight win which takes them to the fourth spot in the points table. In the meantime, this was the second defeat for MI in two matches so far in the UAE leg. The architect of KKR’s win was opener Venkatesh Iyer who scored his maiden IPLfifty.
Iyer scored 53 off 30balls and with Rahul Tripathi 74 took his team to a win. The win was set up by the KKR bowlers and especially Sunil Narine who took the big wicket of Rohit Sharma. The MI skipper went past 1000 runs against KKR and became the first player to do so in IPL history.

KKR skipper Eoin Morgan won the toss and opted to chase which they did professionally. Before chasing the target with the bat, Lockie Ferguson and Prasidh Krishna took two wickets with the ball each, to limit Mumbai Indians to a below-par total.
He also lauded the team performance after bagging a big win over their nemesis in the IPL.
“To hold such a strong Mumbai Indians side to 155 and chase this down gives us confidence. Fitting Venkatesh Iyer into our XI has been difficult with a lot of talented guys, and it’s fanastic the way he’s scored his runs. In the practice games too he has gone on to play this way. Sunil and Chakravarthy are two formidable bowlers. Sunil has been integral to KKR winning when they’ve done. Varun is the fresh guy. The first two games in this phase have been the template for us to play. There’s only one way for us to go in the points table and that is upwards” said Morgan.
There were celebrations in the KKR camp after registering a big win over Mumbai Indians. The players were treated to a special cake which later turned into a cake smash. The KKR official Instagram handle uploaded a video of the same.
KKR play CSK and Delhi Capitals in their next two games in the second phase of IPL 2021.
