According to Cricbuzz, The allocation of the league games for IPL 2022 is expected to be 55 matches distributed among three grounds in Mumbai – Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium, and DY Patil Stadium (Navi Mumbai)- and 15 matches in the MCA International Stadium, Pune. The BCCI has concentrated just on the Maharashtra corridor, in order to avoid COVID-19 risks associated with flight travel.
Each side is likely to play four games at Wankhede, DY Patil Stadium, and three games at Brabourne and Pune. A total of 74 matches will be played in IPL 2022 since there are 10 teams this time.
When there were ten teams in the tournament in 2011, they were split into two groups of five. Each team faced all of the teams in its own group twice, as well as one from the other group twice, and the remaining four teams only once. In this way every team got 14 games, seven at home and seven away. There were 70 league games and four Playoff games in total.
Star Sports Wants IPL 2022 to start on March 26- Reports
As per reports in Cricbuzz, two start dates for the tournament are being considered. The official broadcaster- Star, prefers March 26, Saturday, while the second alternative is to start the mega-event on March 27. The difference between the two possibilities would be the amount of double-header games being played. The final decision will be made during the IPL governing council meeting on February 24.
According to the official broadcasters, starting the tournament on March 26 will allow for a doubleheader to be played on Sunday. This would allow the cash-rich league to gain some momentum in the first two days itself. The discussions are still happening, which is why the BCCI is yet to make a formal declaration about the schedule.
Meanwhile, The commentators have been asked (through an e-mail) to be available from March 19 to June 7 by Star Sports.
