The Lucknow Super Giants opener Quinton De Kock slammed a match-winning century against the Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He opened up about his celebration on the field, after getting to his hundred.

Quinton De Kock opened the innings along with KL Rahul. The duo stayed unbeaten till the end of the innings, putting on 210 runs on the board. The South African was the aggressor of the two, smashing the bowlers all over the park. He scored 140 runs off 70 balls at a strike rate of 200. De Kock’s knock included ten boundaries and as many sixes.

At the other end, KL Rahul scored an unbeaten 68 off 51 balls, with three boundaries and four sixes. The Lucknow Super Giants went on to win the match by two runs.  Post the game, Quinton De Kock reflected on his performance and the celebration in a conversation with KL Rahul for the IPL website.

“I have been feeling at ease but nothing has carried on. I remember you said to me that we need to get where those 80s is. Tonight I didn’t want to let it go. But just to get to that next step, I don’t know what happened. Thought I would just trot to the other side and keep my emotions. But I just let it go, I couldn’t control it. Bit of relief I guess,” De Kock said.

KL Rahul and Quinton De Kock set the record for the highest opening partnership in the history of IPL. It was also the first occurrence in the league’s history, that both the openers have stayed unbeaten till the end of the 20 overs. KL Rahul‘s and Quinton De Kock’s partnership helped the Super Giants to get to a winning total.

Speaking about their opening stand, Quinton De Kock said, “I remember yesterday in the bus I told you that I was feeling good. We just had a little chat and the next day we came and put together an unbelievable partnership. I believe we built the partnership really well and our communication was spot on, which really helped us build to that total.”

With the win over the Kolkata Knight Riders, the Lucknow Super Giants have sealed their spot in the playoffs of the Indian Premier League 2022 season.
