Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have had a mediocre campaign so far in the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). They started the tournament on a roll winning a couple of matches on the trot but since then, it has been a rough patch for the purple brigade.

We are almost at the business end of the IPL 2022 and the race for the playoffs is getting intense with each passing day. Only Mumbai Indians (MI) have been officially knocked out of the tournament after an awful start.

Kolkata Knight Riders are also on the brink of joining MI but mathematically, they are still in the hunt. As of now, the Kolkata franchise have just four victories in 11 games and they are reeling at ninth place in the team standings.

Moreover, their net run rate of -0.304 is only better than that of the last-placed team MI. Hence, even victories in their remaining three games aren’t likely to help KKR to make a place in the next stage.  On that note, let’s take a look at how KKR can still qualify for the playoffs.

Kolkata Knight Riders qualification scenarios in IPL 2022

Scenario 1: Kolkata Knight Riders’remaining three fixtures are against Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Lucknow Super Giants. Needless to mention, they need to win all these games with significant margins to bolster their net run rate.

Scenario 2: Below are the listed results that need to go in KKR’s favour for them to qualify for the playoffs.

KKR beat MI
LSG vs GT (Any result)
RR beat DC
MI beat CSK
PBKS beat RCB
KKR beat SRH

If all the match results pan out like this, then both Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore will end up with 14 points. The team with a better net run rate will make it to the playoffs.
