Rajasthan Royals (RR) spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has expressed that if the ball hits the stumps and the bails light up, but don’t get dislodged, it should still be declared out. Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar had earlier shared the same thoughts.

Recently, during Delhi Capitals’ game against Rajasthan Royals match, a similar incident took place. Spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal bowled an off-stump delivery against David Warner. The ball spun viciously going past the opener. The ball brushed the stumps, and the bails got lit up but then fell back into place. Warner got a lucky reprieve as the bails need to be completely dislodged in order to be declared out.

In a conversation with ESPNCricinfo, Yuzvendra Chahal shared his thoughts about the non-dismissal. He said, “Since it was the first time this happened to me, even I was shocked because the ball hit the wickets and the bails did not fall.”

“If such a thing happens at a crucial time, especially with a batsman like Warner, who does not offer too many chances… so if he had got out at that juncture then probably the match result could have been different,” he added.

If it is not given out, then it could cost you the match: Yuzvendra Chahal on bails not getting dislodged

Yuzvendra Chahal expressed that if such a situation happens during a crucial time in the match, it affects the bowling team. He opined that if the ball hits the wickets, it should be out, irrespective of whether the bails dislodge or not.

“We can do that because at a crucial time, and it is a big event or match or final, then something like this happens because if the ball hits the wicket then it should be out. If it is given not out just because the bails have not fallen off then it could cost you a match. It definitely will affect the (bowling) team,” said Yuzvendra Chahal.
