IPL 2022: Lalit Modi Slams BCCI For Investing In CVC Capitals As IPL Franchise

Lalit Modi has been very busy on Twitter ever since CVC Capitals became one of the two new teams for IPL 2022. Ahmedabad and Lucknow join the other eight established cities in the league to make it a 10-team tournament from the next year. The Sanjeev Goenka Group have picked Lucknow as their home base for INR 7090 crores, while owners of CVC Capitals have bagged Ahmedabad for INR 5166 crores.

Meanwhile, Lalit Modi has slammed the BCCI to invest in CVC Capitals despite the firm getting linked with online betting companies. The private firm came under the scanner after reports that it is linked to online betting companies.

Modi has urged the BCCI to disqualify CVC capitals from the IPL after the emerging reports.

“A DISASTER WAITING TO HAPPEN IF #BCCI DECIDES TO ALLOW @cvc_capital_partners to own a team. A betting company. Has no morals. U should know that. I thought we had zero tolerance. Seems not. @iplt20 #cricket #fixing #itsnotallaboutmoney. I should know,” his Tweet read.

“Disaster and foolish behavior of decision-makers. – It shows. Still after Supreme Court limiting the term. Still members 15/40 years on board. Really disgusting” he wrote in another tweet.

Foolish Decision Making From BCCI: Lalit Modi

Meanwhile, as per reports in Indian Express, the BCCI is making an investigation into the matter behind the originality of the firm and the franchise.

“The formalities haven’t yet been completed, the BCCI legal team is going through it and we are expecting them to revert us post-Diwali. The BCCI has full rights on whom they will allot the team, it’s the board’s discretion and we can only decide on a new IPL franchise (CVC) when the legal team reverts to us,” a BCCI official had earlier stated as quoted by Indian Express.
