Lucknow Super Giants have been dealt with a massive blow with their star fast bowler Mark Wood ruled out of IPL 2022 with an elbow injury. The ace pacer picked up the injury during the first Test against West Indies in North Sound last week.

As per reports in ESPNCricinfo, the medical unit of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have informed the Lucknow Super Giants that Wood has been barred from bowling for the time being.

The 32-year-old pacer walked out of the ground holding his elbow  in sheer pain, bowling only 17 overs and didn’t return to the ground. He was eventually ruled out of the ongoing 2nd Test against West Indies.

Mark Wood was signed by LSG for INR 7.5 crores

Meanwhile, Mark Wood was acquired by the newly added franchise at the IPL 2022 mega auction for a whopping INR 7.5 crores. The franchise is yet to name a replacement of the same.

He has only featured in a solitary match in the Indian Premier League 2018. He was then a part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise. The right-arm pacer conceded 49 runs in his quota of four overs and couldn’t take a wicket either.

Having established himself as one of the finest white-ball bowlers in the world at present, Mark Wood had excited many LSG fans ahead of the start of IPL 2022 season.

He was expected to lead the pace attack alongside young Avesh Khan but the franchise will now have to look at alternative options.

Lucknow Super Giants begin their IPL 2022 campaign against Gujarat Titans on March 28.
