Former India cricketer Parthiv Patel recently revealed an incident when he first informed Virat Kohli about Jasprit Bumrah. The Mumbai Indians pacer is undoubtedly one of the best pacers in the world currently. He has grown to become the leader of the India pace bowling attack.

Jasprit Bumrah made his India debut in 2016 against Australia. Since then he has played 156 International matches, picking 303 wickets, including nine five-wicket hauls, across formats. He was recently announced as the Vice-Captain of the Indian team for the series against Sri Lanka.

Speaking on Cricbuzz, Parthiv Patel recalled of the time, when he spoke for Virat Kohli about the young Gujarat pacer. He remarked that Kohli did not take it seriously. Parthiv said,

“In 2014, when I was at RCB, I told Kohli there’s this bowler named Bumrah. Have a look at him. Virat replied saying ‘Chhor na yaar. Ye Bumrah-Vumrah kya karenge? (Let’s leave it, what will Bumrah-Vumrah do)

Parthiv Patel further also spoke about Jasprit Bumrah’s growth as a cricketer, early in his career. He recalled that Bumrah could have been sent back mid-Ranji Trophy season in 2015, due to his poor performance.

“When he was first picked, Bumrah played Ranji Trophy for the first 2-3 years. 2013 was his first year, and he didn’t have a good season in 2014. In 2015, it was so bad that there were discussions going on that he might have to be sent back home mid-season,” said Parthiv Patel.

The former cricketer expressed that Bumrah’s hard work and the backing that he received from Mumbai Indians are paying off. He said,

“But, he slowly began improving and Mumbai Indians really backed him. It was his own hard work and such backing that really brought out the best in him,”
