Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma was fined INR 12 lakhs for maintaining a slow-over rate against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Brabourne Stadium on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the five-time IPL champions had a bad day in the office as they lost to Delhi despite dominating the most part of the game. In an official media release by the Indian Premier League (IPL) it was stated that Mumbai Indians had maintained a slow over rate.

“The Mumbai Indians have been fined after they maintained a slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 match against Delhi Capitals at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on March 27,” the IPL said in a media release.

“As it was the team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma was fined Rs 12 lakhs,” the release added.

Delhi Capitals prevail over Mumbai Indians in an exciting clash

After an early collapse in the run chase, Axar Patel and Lalit Yadav scored 75 runs off 30 balls to do it for Delhi. They were down and out with a lot of runs needed and required rate going up to 11.

Shardul Thakur showed early hopes with a small cameo before Axar and Lalit took the attack to the opposition. Delhi accumulated 100 runs in 7.2 overs off Daniel Sams and Jasprit Bumrah that sums up the match for Mumbai.

Earlier in the game, Ishan Kishan has ensured Mumbai Indians get a good total on the board. He anchored the innings after Rohit departed. MI were losing their way a bit with Anmolpreet falling quickly after Rohit, but young Tilak Varma on IPL debut played a crucial cameo in the middle overs.

Kieron Pollard fell early too, but Ishan, Tim David and Daniel Sams got the hits away to push the total beyond 170. Kuldeep was very impressive on his IPL comeback taking three wickets.
