The next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will take place in India and before that, a mega auction will take place. Moreover, two new teams – Lucknow and Ahmedabad have been added and ten teams will compete from the next season as well.
As per the guidelines, each franchise can retain a maximum number of four players and at most two of them can be overseas as well. However, if they retain four players, their auction purse will be reduced by 42 crore. If they retain three players, the purse will be Rs 33 crore, two retentions will cost Rs 24 crore while one would cost Rs 14 crore as well.
However, Punjab Kings had rather forgettable shows in the last few seasons. In IPL 2021 too, they finished on the 6th spot in the points table and failed to qualify for playoffs as well. Out of 14 seasons so far, they have reached the playoffs only twice. While their key players failed to step up on many occasions in the last season, they would love to have a fresh start.
