The Mumbai Indians have announced their player’s retention list for the Indian Premier League 2022 season. Rohit Sharma will continue as the skipper of the franchise in the upcoming season.
The deadline for the IPL franchises to submit the retention list was November 30. During a special IPL retention show on Star Sports, the Mumbai Indians announced that they will retain Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, and Kieron Pollard ahead of the IPL 2022 mega-auctions.
Rohit Sharma has led the Mumbai Indians to five Indian Premier League titles so far. He is the most successful skipper in the tournament, in terms of championship wins. Middle-order batter, Suryakumar Yadav has also been an integral part of the team for the last few years. Jasprit Bumrah will lead the Mumbai Indians bowling attack, while Kieron Pollard will handle the all-rounder’s department, in the upcoming season. Notably, Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya have not been retained by the Mumbai Indians.

According to the rules laid by the BCCI, each existing team was allowed to retain up to four players. The four players could include, two Indians and two overseas, or three Indians and one overseas. The teams were allowed to retain two uncapped players. Each team was allocated a salary purse of 90 crores, however, after retaining four players Mumbai Indians has a remaining salary purse of 48 crores. The mega-auctions are likely to be held in December this year.
The Mumbai Indians finished fifth on the points table in the Indian Premier League 2021. They lost seven out of their fourteen matches in the tournament. The five-time IPL champions will be keen to make a roaring comeback and add another title to their name next season.
