IPL 2023: Key Records That Could Be Broken In KKR vs LSG Match
IPL 2023

On Saturday, May 20, a doubleheader of the IPL 2023’s Match 68 will take place at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata between the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

Throughout their 13-game season, the Knight Riders have had hot and cold streaks, winning six games while losing seven. They are seventh in the standings with 12 points and a net run rate of -0.256. They must win here in order to guarantee a spot in the final four, and they must then hope that other outcomes will go their way.

On the other hand, LSG’s second season has seen them perform admirably yet again. The team of Krunal Pandya has played 13 games, winning seven and losing five. Third in the table with 15 points and an NRR of +0.304. They would be assured a place in the final four with a win in this game.

Both teams have the opportunity to accomplish specific goals in every IPL match. Therefore, during this upcoming game as well, some records may be broken.

On that note, let’s look at the top three records that could break in today’s KKR vs LSG match

1. Varun Chakravarthy might become just the second KKR bowler in IPL history to record 20 wickets in a season

Varun Chakravarthy has been outstanding for KKR this season after a lacklustre IPL 2022 campaign (6 wickets in 11 games). Through 13 games, the unidentified spinner has already claimed 19 scalps at a strike rate of 15 points three.

With a win over LSG, Chakravarthy would set a significant personal record. If the 31-year-old bowler succeeds in getting a wicket on Saturday, he will join Sunil Narine as the only bowler for KKR to record 20 wickets in a single IPL season.

Three times (in 2012, 2013 and 2014) Narine has over 20 wickets in a single campaign.

2 Andre Russell has a chance to become the first-ever pacer with 100 T20 wickets.

Andre Russell is one of the most intimidating strikers in T20s, but he has always had a special knack for taking wickets.

The Jamaican-born bowler has 95 innings and 97 wickets for KKR with a brilliant strike rate of just over 15. Russell would need three more victims to reach 100 wickets for KKR, making him the first pacer in the franchise’s history to reach that milestone in a T20 match.

Russell has 97 total T20 wickets for KKR, 95 of which he has taken in the IPL and the other two in the Champions League T20.

3 Venkatesh Iyer might score 1,000 IPL runs

The matchup with LSG presents Venkatesh Iyer, who made his IPL debut with KKR in 2021, with the opportunity to reach 1,000 IPL runs.

Over the course of 35 innings, the KKR left-hander has amassed 932 runs at an average of 28 points and a strike rate of just under 130. He needs 68 more runs to reach 1,000 runs and become the tenth Indian player to reach that milestone for KKR.
