The Delhi Capitals (DC) has had a terrible season thus far in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL). The 2020 finalists are at the bottom of the standings after losing each of their first five games.

DC has already come close to being eliminated from the playoff race due to the absence of regular captain Rishabh Pant and the poor play of several other players.

Although DC hasn’t done much as a team in IPL 2023 as a whole. David Warner has been leading the batting unit on his own.
JSW and GMR must analyze the season which is probably going to be DC’s second straight year without any playoff action.

According to reports, the owners want to reduce their coaching staff as well and head coach Ricky Ponting’s future is reportedly being debated internally. According to TOI:

”Although nothing will change in the middle of the season. JSW and GMR, the two co-owners will be forced to deal with the fallout when they look back on the season. So you can be sure that this massive coaching staff won’t be there next season. Some heads may roll as a result “.

After being named head coach of DC in 2018, Ponting guided the team to their first-ever IPL final appearance in 2020. Sourav Ganguly, a former captain of India was also reappointed as the director of cricket for the 2023 season.

In addition to the two enormous figures, the backroom staff also includes Shane Watson, James Hopes, Biju George, Ajit Agarkar, and Pravin Amre, who each play a different role. Sarfaraz Khan rather than Prithvi Shaw may serve as DC’s opener.

One of many issues that DC must resolve in order to salvage anything from the remainder of the tournament is Prithvi Shaw’s glaringly poor form. Only 34 runs including two ducks have been scored in five games by the young Indian opener. Who is primarily been used as an impact player?

In the absence of Rishabh Pant, the team used Sarfaraz Khan as a wicketkeeper to start the tournament. They swiftly abandoned the idea and brought in Abhishek Porel in its place. The promotion of David Warner and Sarfaraz to the top of the order is reportedly a possibility.
