Steve Smith, an Australian cricketer, previously announced that he would be playing in the Indian Premier League in 2023. He said he would join “an exceptional and passionate team in India.”

Now that all the pieces are in place, the talented batter will be joining the panel of experts for the upcoming tournament and making his commentary debut.

Smith last participated in an IPL game in the 2021 season while playing for the Delhi Capitals.

The 33-year-old has competed in nine iterations of the lucrative tournament. He has played 103 games and accrued 2485 runs, with the highest score of 101. He didn’t participate in the competition because he wasn’t purchased in the IPL 2022 mega auction.

The official broadcaster of the competition, Star Sports, announced on their social media account that the stalwart would don the commentator’s hat this time.

Smith will be making his broadcast debut with Star Sports. He will be enhancing the network’s already impressive roster of panellists with his invaluable knowledge and experience. The broadcaster announced in a formal statement.

Smith decided not to participate in the December 2022 IPL 2023 mini-auction. Smith played for several teams before joining the Delhi Capitals in 2021. He switched then to the Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rising Pune Supergiant, Pune Warriors India, and Kochi Tuskers Kerala.

The curtain-raiser for the 16th season of the Indian Premier League will be played on March 31 at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. The defending champion Gujarat Titans take charge against the four-time champion Chennai Super Kings.

The league stage of the tournament will feature a total of 70 games. It is followed by two qualifiers, an eliminator, and the championship match.

It would be intriguing to watch this year’s IPL as many teams have picked up solid players that are going to give their best to make their team on top. The commentary panel is also looking great.
