IPL 2023: Top 3 Records That Could Be Broken In Today’s GT vs CSK Match

The stage is set for the championship match between the top-tier teams Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) after two months of nonstop cricket action. On Sunday, May 28, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will play host to the eagerly anticipated game.

Chennai will play in their tenth IPL final and, if they succeed in winning, they will join Mumbai Indians (MI) as the record five-time champions. Chennai advanced to the finals by defeating GT in the Qualifier 1.

Gujarat, meanwhile, will be attempting to defend their title against CSK after reaching their second straight IPL final. If they win another final, GT will join CSK and MI as the only other teams to have consecutively won two IPL championships.

In the upcoming high-stakes match, other records are also at risk. Now that that is out of the way, let’s look at the top three achievements that could occur in the final between CSK and GT tonight.

1. MS Dhoni will finish all 250 IPL games, making him the first player to ever do so.

In the 2023 IPL final, MS Dhoni, a true IPL legend, will play in his 250th match. He will make history by playing all 250 IPL games, making him the player with the most appearances in the league.

In addition, Dhoni will compete in his 11th IPL final, becoming the first player to do so. The CSK captain has accumulated 5,082 runs at a strike rate of just under 136 over the course of his 249 IPL games. This includes 137 catches and 41 stumpings while serving as the wicketkeeper.

2. Shubman Gill can become the only cricketer to ever reach 900 runs in a single IPL season.

Shubman Gill, an Indian, will be remembered for his incredible brilliance during the IPL 2023 season. This season, the sophisticated GT opener has been breaking records with ease, and it may do so again against CSK. Gill is only 49 runs short of reaching 900 runs for the season after putting together 851 runs over 16 innings.

If he continues to score 49 runs, he will overtake Virat Kohli (973 runs in 2016) as the only cricketer to ever score over 900 runs in a single season.

3. Devon Conway can become the CSK player with the second-most runs in a single IPL season.

Devon Conway has had an excellent season. With 625 runs this season at a fantastic average of 52 points per inning over 15 innings, the left-handed opener is tied for fourth in terms of runs scored. With 625 runs, Conway has the fourth-best IPL season total of any CSK player. The Kiwi will become the CSK player with the second-most runs in a single IPL season if he scores another 11 runs against GT, surpassing Ruturaj Gaikwad’s total of 635 runs from 2022.

Conway would need another 109 runs to surpass Michael Hussey’s 733 runs from the 2013 season, who holds the record for most runs scored by a CSK player in a single season.
