Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 24 runs in a high-scoring thriller played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on 14 April 2023 in the IPL 2023.

Kolkata Knight Riders captain Nitish Rana won the toss and decided to field first. Harry Brooks looked in fine form putting pressure on KKR bowlers making use of the field restriction. Mayank Agarwal and Rahul Tripathi fell in quick succession. Brooks showed his class with attacking shots keeping the momentum going for SRH.

Brooks completed his maiden IPL fifty off 32 deliveries. Aiden Markram showed intent on taking on KKR spinners making life tough for KKR captain Nitish Rana. SRH captain Markram completed his fifty off 25 deliveries and was eventually caught at the boundary trying to hit a big shot. Markram and Brooks added 72 runs for the 3rd wicket.

After slowing a little against the spinners, Brooks was given out by the umpire but on review, it was overturned to out as it hit the pad. After surviving DRS, Brooks hammered KKR bowlers all over the park and kept the momentum going for SRH. Abhishek Sharma came down the order and took on KKR bowlers.

Harry Brooks completed his maiden IPL century off 55 deliveries and remained at the non-striker end. It was a superb knock by Brooks who looked ordinary in the first 3 matches for SRH. Brooks remained not out on 100 off 55 deliveries with 12 fours and 3 sixes that helped SRH post a massive total of 228 for 4. Brooks and Klassen added unbeaten 73 runs for the 4th wicket.

Harry Brooks was bought by the SRH franchise for a record 13.25 Crore and struggled against RR, Lucknow Super Giants, and Punjab Kings. He proved his worth with a brilliant century that helped SRH post a daunting target of 229 to win.

Kolkata Knight Riders could not chase down the target

Kolkata Knight Riders could not chase down a massive target of 229 runs. Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Venkatesh Iyer, and Sunil Narine went cheaply. Narayana Jagadeesan and Nitish Rana showed intent to put pressure on SRH bowlers.

Mayank Markande provided the much-needed breakthrough dismissing Jagadeesan caught by Phillips. Rana and Jagadeesan added 62 runs for the 4th wicket. Andre Russell also fell cheaply to leave KKR in trouble. Nitish Rana looked in fine touch smashing Umran Malik for 28 runs in his first over.

Rana completed his half-century off 25 deliveries and gave KKR hopes of winning. Rinku Singh continued from where he left smashing SRH bowlers. Natarajan struck to get rid of dangerous Nitish Rana. Rana and Rinku added 69 runs for the 6th wicket. Rinku provided some hope completing a half-century off 27 deliveries. KKR made 205 for 7 in 20 overs, losing the match by 23 runs.
