Aakash Chopra Argues That Gill Should Have Been Named Man Of The Match.

In Gujarat Titans’ victory over Punjab Kings in the IPL 2023, Aakash Chopra argues that Gill should have been named Man of the Match.

Aakash Chopra feels that Shubman Gill, rather than Mohit Sharma, should have received the Player of the Match award during the Gujarat Titans’ (GT) IPL 2023 victory over the Punjab Kings (PBKS).

After requesting the Punjab Kings to bat first in Mohali on Thursday, April 13, Mohit recorded figures of 2/18 in four overs as the Gujarat Titans limited them to 153/8. Hardik Pandya and the company then helped Gill score a 67 off just 49 balls. With six wickets and one delivery left to spare, they successfully surpassed the target.

Chopra questioned why Shubman Gill did not receive Player of the Match in a video he posted on his YouTube channel while recapping the game, asking:

“Gujarat triumphed; the game undoubtedly went to overtime, but they prevailed. My choice for Player of the Match would have been Shubman Gill, who really ought to have been the Man of the Match”.

Despite the appearance of a flat pitch, the former Indian opener noted that the game did not feature many goals, explaining:

“Each team took the plate. Whether the pitch was flat or not doesn’t matter; it depends on what you or I say. Batting might not have been simple if one team scored 153 and the other team chased it down in 19.5 overs while losing wickets in both innings”.

Chopra said while praising Gill’s grace, “The Gujarat Titans opener lost his wicket due to the only poor shot he played.”

“The player who scored 50 points should have received the Player of the Match honour. How well the man plays, but also how elegantly and attractively he plays. In actuality, he only made one bad shot before leaving the game. He left during and at the wrong shot, both mistakes”.

When the Gujarat Titans needed six runs off of five pitches, Gill was castled by Sam Curran. Then, when the defending champions needed four runs off of two balls to secure the victory, Rahul Tewatia smacked a boundary off the penultimate ball.
